African Diamonds

I lived in Africa for many years. We once visited a diamond mine. I expected to see glinting lights when we looked into a hopper of stones cascading out of the washer. Disappointment flooded over me when the stones looked like ordinary gravel.

Diamonds need to be cut, faceted and polished to become jewels. The same is true with each of us who want to become "precious jewels" to our Lord. The first cleaving happens when we place our wills at His feet and accept Him as Lord and Savior of our lives. Then the faceting and polishing can begin.

I had a distinct polish to my humility facet this week. I've connected with my grandniece on Facebook. On her "wall" she posted a picture of her pet. "Nice puppy!" I commented. It turns out, on MUCH closer inspection, that the creature is not a dog at all -- but a goat! Oh well, my brother got a rib-shaking laugh at his sister's expense. (Sigh) I've made an appointment with my ophthalmologist. I DID tell you, didn't I, that I'm almost 70? Cataracts are forming!

This is a wonderful blog, Sylvia. I love the way you compare how the Lord works on us with the way a diamond is made into a precious jewel. Nice 'mug shot' by the way.

Great first post, Sylvia. And your "mug shot" is just fine.

Thank you all for your kind comments. Yes, MJ, I do look like my mother -- and that makes me happy.

Hugs to each of you.

So what is the story behind the mug shot? Was Duane too tired to get out of the chair and take a proper pic? :O Glad to see you have joined the blogosphere. I will enjoy reading your posts.

Thank you, my dear son-in-law. No, Duane took it in the office at the end of a L-O-N-G day. He "said" he was trying out my new camera!!! I tried to change it, but obviously I did something wrong. Will have to work on it later today.

Hugs.
